Installer Support

If the installation problem you're experiencing doesn't fit anything here, please contact RSI Support via e-mail. If possible, include a phone number at which you can be reached so that we can call you. New customers should call us at the number listed on cover letter received with your order.

Affects: Multiple-license customers needing "silent install" capability on Windows platforms.  (Prior to 16 October 2008, our installers did not support this.)

If you purchased your software after 16 October 2008

Follow these steps to do a silent install:

  1. Copy the application installer(s) to a folder on your hard drive
  2. Create a text file named "password.txt" in the folder with the installer(s)
  3. Edit the text file so that it contains the installation key.  It should not have any blank lines or control characters
  4. From a command prompt, run each installer with the following command-line arguments: /sp- /verysilent /noreboot
Note that the current directory must be the same as the directory holding the installer's .exe file.  In other words, the installer must be called from the directory in which it resides.  If the current directory is not set correctly the installer will fail.

If you purchased your software before 16 October 2008

If the applications you have were purchased during the summer of 2008, contact RSI Support for new installers.

If your purchase was before the summer of 2008, you may need to purchase upgrades of your applications.  Contact us to find out if you need an upgrade.

As of summer, 2008, we are no longer using InstallShield® installers on Windows-based systems.  There is one known bug involved with the old installers:

Affects: All Windows versions purchased after March, 2004.
Symptom: The Installshield installer will show a window saying that it needs "the next disk" that contains the file "layout.bin." It may look something like this:
Problem: InstallShield bug
Fix: There's a simple workaround for this--refer to the following technical note from InstallShield:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108192. You will need to apply this fix to the individual program installers on your CD.  Contact RSI Support at support@riversci.com for assistance.
Explanation: InstallShield says that, on some systems, the installer will remove the temporary files it creates before it attempts to use them. This causes the request for a disk containing the missing files.
