Apple Intel-based PCs |
Apple's Intel platforms do not
run the PowerPC version of New Moon correctly. We
began shipping an Intel version of New Moon in July, 2006;
if you purchased New Moon Version 2 prior to
this you're entitled to a free upgrade. Contact

The program will cause a

We've had a report from a customer that Novell ZENworks can

The program reports some sort
of memory reading error when you switch to the Phases,
Eclipses or Planets Views. It may also simply shut
down.
Intel 865G video chipsets (and probably others by other
manufacturers) can cause problems like this if their drivers
are not up-to-date.
To fix this problem, install the latest driver.
You should go to the video chipset manufacturer
for the latest driver, not the company that sold you the
computer. The seller may not have the latest driver. |

Upon starting the program, a
small dialog box pops up and says "Exiting, Unable to
initialize 3D device"
This can have two known causes:
1. Your computer's display is not set to either 16-
or 24-bit color depth. This setting can be changed by
right clicking on the Windows desktop, choosing
Properties from the pop-up menu, then the Settings
tab. Under Colors or Color Quality
choose either 16- or 32-bit color.
2. Your computer's graphic adapter doesn't support the
features needed (Direct3D hardware acceleration). If
this is the case, there is no fix other than changing the
video adapter to one that does support the needed features.
It may be possible that this problem can be addressed by
updating the adapter's driver. Consult your tech
support staff.

Squashed Bugs & Other Changes
Version 2.03:
- You can now have constellation names on the printed sky
charts. To omit the names, make sure they're disabled in the on-screen
Sky View.
-
Eclipse dates have been added to the Time dialog box for several
interesting pre-2000 total solar eclipses and for all total
eclipses from 2000-2004. The pre-2005 eclipses are found
in the drop-down list after the 2005-2020 eclipses.
-
Right-clicking on the planets in the Planets View sometimes
didn't produce the information dialog boxes. This has been
fixed.
Version 2.02:
- Mars wasn't showing its correct face to Earth; it now is.
-
All solar and lunar eclipses between 2005 and 2020 are now
included; each eclipse type (total, partial, annular) is also
noted.
- Four Messier objects that were traditionally denoted
as elliptical galaxies are now correctly identified as spiral
galaxies.
- New Moon has been recompiled to be smaller
and run faster.
Version 2.01:
- Corrects the reversed color-coding of the Moon's orbit on
the Eclipses View
- Keeps Jupiter's moons inside their bounding
box on printouts
Version 2.0:
- Eliminates an occasional phantom constellation line on the
Sky View
- Correctly refers to the Sky View's projection as a
Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection
- Prevents the
Animation Bar from overlaying the Sky View's main chart
-
Handles an error caused by running the time past the year 9,800
